August 8, 1931 ~ December 23, 2023 (age 92)
Doris Lee Smith Hinson, 92, of the New Hope Community of Whiteville, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 23rd, 2023, at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care “Angel House” in Whiteville.
Doris was born on August 8, 1931, daughter of the late James Gillad Smith and Mittie Lee Dew Smith. She was the widow of Robert “Bob” Howard Hinson, who preceded her in 1991, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Ann Hinson High in 2015 and two siblings, Marie Smith Thompson and J.G. Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Darrin Moore officiating. Doris was a member of New Hope Baptist Church; she also worked for over 40 years at Leder Brothers Department Store in Whiteville and later with the Columbus County Sheriff Department for over 10 years.
The surviving family includes her children, Karen H. McPherson (J.B.) of Chadbourn, James “Jimmy” Howard Hinson (Lori) of Wake Forest, and Heath Bryan Hinson (Kirsten) of Long Island, New York; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
