The victim of a shooting near Whiteville Saturday called 911 after she was assaulted. The woman later died at Columbus Regional.
Frederick Smith, 71, was charged with murder and jailed just after midnight Sunday morning, Sheriff Bill Rogers said.
The victim, identified as Brandi Alexis Scott, called 911 after a reported argument with Smith in the Elizabeth Street home they shared. Elizabeth Street is located off Crepe Myrtle Lane, in North Whiteville.
Smith and the woman were reportedly in a relationship.
