The National Weather Service released its wrap up for the 2024 hurricane season on Monday. The season saw some unusual trends, including more storm formation after the usual peak, as well as the second deadliest storm in modern history, Hurricane Helene. Whiteville City Council Tuesday Night will consider a request that some hope will improve development along the bypass. Henry Nadeau of Hampstead asked the council to consider a changed in the zoning rules that will loosen some requirements on types of businesses allowed in the highway service district. The planning and zoning committee endorsed the recommended change. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and may be attended in person or watched online.
Get ready for some cold weather. The first real cold snap of the year will move in Friday after a series of thunderstorms Thanksgiving Day. Temperatures will likely struggle to break 50 degrees after the rains, with 40s in the daytime and some 20s at night starting Friday.

The Highway Patrol kicked off the Thanksgiving Click It or Ticket effort Monday. Local agencies and troopers will be looking for seatbelt violations, speeding and impaired drivers through December 1. Thanksgiving week is expected to be even busier than usual this year due to lower gas prices.
Last Friday, The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit apprehend individuals with outstanding drug-related warrants. By 2:00 p.m., deputies had served nearly 30 of over 50 warrants issued following months of investigations.
