The Good News for Jan. 29-Feb. 5

Walker (formerly known as Harlem) has settled happily into his new home.

Last week’s fundraiser for the family of Misty Cribb raised more than $10,000. The proceeds were distributed evenly between Misty’s daughters Rhea and Kyla, and her stepson Maddox. Kyla is in UNC Hospitals, still facing a long recovery from her injuries. Maddox is home but also faces more medical care. Misty was an account executive with CCN, and died in a car crash Jan. 6.

Despite moving more than 1,000 chicken bog plates, Willing Vessels Ministries had a surplus of supplies after Saturday’s sale. The donated meats and other products will be used for an outreach meal by Willing Vessels Ministries this week, and for a cancer fundraiser in Elizabethtown scheduled for later in the month.

You know we love happy endings, especially when it comes to pets. Harlem – who is now called Walker – was found chained to a pole in a Whiteville area yard in December. It was suspected that he was used as a bait dog for fighting. Walker was seized by Animal Protective Services and later adopted by Michael Elliot, who discovered to pitiful pup on a bitterly cold day. Michael’s mom is Maria Elliot, who has a doggy spa as a sideline to her main job at Truist.

Walker.

Walker has been living it up in his new home, where he has his own furniture, other dogs, and a loving family. He received a clean bill of health at his last vet visit. He loves to play and greet his people at the door with a big smile every day. Walker has gained a good bit of weight and his injuries have healed. He loves beef liver treats, his blanket, and cuddling on the couch.
