Representative Brenden Jones called out former governor Roy Cooper and the N.C. Office of Resilience and Recovery in an X post Thursday for failure to properly manage hundreds of millions in relief for victims of Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. NCORR cannot account for much of the state and federal funding set aside to rebuild and repair storm damaged homes.
Firefighters were back in the Evergreen area Thursday as yet another major wildfire is burning off Mangum Road. Tractors, aircraft and multiple personnel are involved in that effort. Dangerously dry conditions are continuing today, and there’s little relief in sight before next week.
Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site will host the N.C. Rice Festival March 8. The festival celebrates how rice and Gullah-Geechee culture shaped the North Carolina Low Country. The festival will feature over 70 vendors and three stage areas offering lectures, storytelling, children’s crafts, and live music.
