Here’s today’s Bottom Line
The dry weather continues today as high pressure flexes its muscle offshore. Zero rain chances today through Thursday as our drought conditions worsen.
A frontal system is slowly – and I do mean slowly – approaching the area. All of the guidance out there now suggests the front will not reach our area until Saturday. This will mean a change to our forecast for Saturday, now featuring a good deal of cloudiness along with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The best chance for thunderstorms will be later Saturday afternoon into the evening as the front moves through the area. Looking at the ensemble modeling, the shear values are supportive of thunderstorm organization, but the severe threat will be determined by when the actual front pushes in. As the timing of the frontal passage continues to be slower with each model run, it could mean that the best lift/forcing from the front comes after the peak instability and shear. At any rate, any storm that develops will produce some torrential rainfall and the potential for a lot of lightning.
The front moves offshore early Sunday with cooler temps lasting into Monday.
