Two men were caught allegedly stealing pump and materials from the Whiteville Wastewater Treatment Plant Tuesday.
Whiteville Police said Clayton Donald Soles and Michael Cartrette were detained after they were spotted trying to load a truck and trailer with tractor implements.
An employee at the plant found the men at the Public Works facility on Meares Street in the act of loading the trailer, according to a WPD press release. Members of the Patrol Division made contact with the men at the scene.
WPD Detectives were already working on a larceny from the previous night at the WWTP. Officers determined that a water pump stolen during the first larceny had been sold for scrap metal. Detectives were able to recover the pump.
Soles, 28, gave his address as 730 Emerson Church Rd., Tabor City. Cartrette, 42, listed his address on court documents as 3320 Ten Mile Rd., Tabor City.
Both were charged with felony breaking, entering and larceny and two counts of attempted larceny. Both men were released on unsecured bonds.
