Although the dry weather has delayed the worst of mosquito-breeding season, state officials are urging horse owners to vaccinate equines against mosquito borne disease as well as rabies.
If a bill approved by the N.C. House becomes law, sheriffs and local law enforcement will be required to cooperate with law enforcement. House Bill 318—The Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act adds to HB 10, which was passed last year and requires law officers to notify Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) before illegal immigrants jailed on violent crimes are released.
The National Day of Prayer will take place this Thursday, May 1, beginning at 12 p.m. Several places in Columbus County will be observing this event, so feel free to join to them at the following locations: the old Whiteville courthouse steps, the Chadbourn/Klondyke Fire Department Gazebo, the Sheriff’s Office Annex in Riegelwood, and the Tabor City Welcome Center platform. The observance will last about twenty minutes.
