Shots Said Fired After Soccer Game

No injuries were reported after a bet on a soccer game led to a fight and shots being fired at two juveniles in a car Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were deployed to a 911 call about shots being fired at a moving vehicle on N.C. 130 near the town of Brunswick. Neither the victims nor alleged assailants were at the scene when law enforcement arrived.

Deputies later made contact with the victims at Walmart. The victims said they had been playing soccer in Ash with a group of around 25 others around 10 p.m. A bet of $100 was placed on the game, and the victims’ team paid when they lost. An argument then broke out among several individuals, according to the report, and the victims left, heading west on N.C. 130.

They noticed a red Toyota vehicle following them, the report said, and the driver attempted to run them off the road near Hallsboro Road South. Someone in the Toyota fired multiple shots at the victims, and the suspect vehicle turned and fled near Brunswick when they saw law enforcement vehicles responding to the all.

The report noted that the deputy did not see a fleeing vehicle, and the victims’ vehicle was undamaged. No one was injured in the incident.
