A Myrtle Beach couple were jailed Thursday after a search of their vehicle turned up fentanyl and a firearm.

Anthony Glen Breeden, 36 and Julianne Elizabeth Zevgolis, 36, were arrested just after midnight at N.C. 242 and Princess Ann Road during a checkpoint. Both were charged with trafficking in fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. Breeden was also charged with carrying a concealed firearm and failure to appear.

The sheriff’s office reported that Breeden stopped as directed at the checkpoint, and cooperated with deputies. While reaching into the glove compartment for the vehicle registration, the report said deputies saw a handgun. Breeden told deputies he did not have a concealed carry permit.

Breeden and Zevgolis were removed from the vehicle, and told deputies there was no other contraband in the Dodge, and denied permission to search. K9 Cooper alerted at the open passenger side window. Deputies found a “colorful” purse with “multiple” folded papers containing a powdered substance that field tested positive for fentanyl. Breden and Zevgolis denied any knowledge of the purse of contents, but Breeden then claimed the illegal materials were his property. Deputies found 6.4 grams of fentanyl in the bag.

A records check showed Breeden was wanted for failure to appear. He was also cited for several traffic violations.

Breeden’s bond was set at $26,500 secured, and Zevgolis was held under $25,000 bond.
