Aliece Hill Johnson, 91, of Evergreen, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, May 26, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Aliece was born on October 9, 1933, daughter of the late John Everette Hill and Edith Harriett Nelson Hill. In addition to her parents, Aliece was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tom” Ray Johnson; son, Reginald Mark Johnson; sisters, Joyce Nance and Peggy Cousins.
Funeral services honoring the life and legacy of Aliece will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Evergreen Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will speak to friends following the committal service at the cemetery.
Aliece attended Evergreen High School and upon her graduation she furthered her education at UNC Pembroke, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree. Aliece worked in education and served as the postmaster in Evergreen for over 25 years. In addition to many other life achievements, Aliece received her NC real estate license, in which she continued to work part-time following her retirement from the postal service.
Aliece was an avid reader and had a beautiful voice; she sang at countless weddings, funerals, and church events for many years. She was always proud of being one of the first Yam Festival Queens.
The surviving family includes two children, Thomas Ray Johnson, II and Donna Johnson Bartley (Cecil); grandchildren, Chad Bartley (Brooke), Jordan Bartley (Keri Ana), Chance Johnson (Emily), Judith Johnson, Holli Johnson, Ashley Young ; great-grandchild, Jacey Bartley; bonus-grandchildren, Lexi, Zander, Dalton, Maddie, Jamie; sisters-in-law, Grey Pearce and Sondra Merritt.
The family wishes to thank Liberty Hospice and Home Care for the loving care shown to Ms. Aliece.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evergreen Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
