J. Woodie Etheridge

February 12, 1946 ~ June 24, 2025 (age 79)

Mr. Woodie Etheridge 79,  of the Crusoe Community, Whiteville passed on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 in Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House, Whiteville.   He was born February 12, 1946  in Columbus County, the son of the late Willie B. Etheridge and Lola Register Etheridge.

Woodie spent his life doing what he loved the most being outdoors. A lifelong hunter, fisherman, he also had a unique trade as a trapperman as well. Woodie found peace in the woods and on the lake. Whether tracking whitetail through the fall leaves or casting a line into his favorite fishing hole, Woodie’s heart was always closest to nature but closer to God. Those who knew Woodie will remember him getting his life right with God while sitting on a tree stump in the Juniper Creek Swamp.

He was a devoted husband to his very caring and loving wife Sena Mae. He worked hard his whole life and retired from the finishing room at International Paper in Riegelwood NC. He was also a very devoted member, deacon and song leader at the church he loved the most Macedonia Original Freewill Baptist Church in Crusoe. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed. Woodie has gained his wings with his heavenly father and is now with Jesus. As his favorite song written “Victory in Jesus” he is having victory with Jesus today.

He is survived by his wife, Sena Mae Ward Etheridge; a sister, Verlie Jernigan of Supply, NC;

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Leather Register, brothers, Leland Etheridge, Bailey Etheridge  and George Etheridge, a brother-in-law, Gene Jernigan.
