Columbus County Commissioners on Monday will discuss a draft of a proposed ordinance regulating large gatherings on public property. The draft has not been released to the public.

Rep. Brenden Jones’  bill banning diversity, equity and inclusion in government hiring and operations made it through a final vote Thursday and is headed for the governor’s desk after amendments by the state senate. Gov. Josh Stein is expected to veto the bill. Stein took action on ten bills Thursday. We’ll have a wrap-up later today.

Months long investigation ended with 25 arrests on a variety of narcotics charges this week, with most in Columbus County. Dubbed Operation Heat Wave, deputies and officers from multiple departments and agencies rounded up multiple suspects for sales of opiates, methamphetamine, and other drugs, as well as seizing firearms and cash.
