A Clarkton man was killed Sunday when his motorcycle crashed into an SUV. Raykwan Davis was traveling north when Dilena Jessup of Elizabethtown attempted to turn left onto U.S. 701 Business, Davis was traveling north at a high rate of speed and collided with the SUV. Jessup was transported to New Hanover.
An attempted good deed turned tragic Saturday at Lake Tabor. Ernest lee Chavis, age 62, was attempting to retrieve a beach ball when he drowned off Lynwood Norris Road. His body was recovered around 6:30 p.m.
Gregory Johnson will serve 15 to 20 years in prison for a 2023 standoff where he fired at law enforcement. Johnson took a plea deal in Columbus County Superior Court Thursday.
