A newly sworn detention officer died Monday, hours after joining the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Bill Rogers said the officer died due to a medical emergency. His name was not immediately released.

Monday’s County Commissioners meeting was postponed until July 28. A lightning strike damaged an air conditioning unit at the county office building on Webster Street last week. Several county offices closed early due to the lack of AC.

Trouble often comes in pairs and that will be the case starting this Thursday as Riegelwood’s 6-U and 8-U DYB teams invade Dunn.        The tournament will take place at Tyler Park and Clarence Tart Memorial Park. The town and community of Riegelwood is expecting to have a large crowd going to Harnett County.
