A former postal worker at Evergreen could serve  20 years in prison for embezzlement. Robert Raquan Patterson pleaded to misappropriating $74,000 while he worked at Evergreen. Patterson forged postal money orders to himself using fraudulent debit and credit card payments. He will be sentenced in federal court this week.

 

Greg Hewett, Doug Smith and other volunteers destroyed a large beaver dam in Soules Swamp Friday with the assistance of an explosives expert. The work is being done to help reduce some of the flooding problems in the Whiteville downtown area. The expert was paid for by  donations collected from downtown business owners.

 

Camden Luke Caraballo, 18, was held under $10,000 secured bond. He was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering a vehicle, reckless driving, driving without a license and multiple traffic violations. His address was listed as 3940 Haynes Lennon Hwy., Chadbourn.
