Two felony animal cruelty charges and 19 misdemeanor counts have been filed against the Hallsboro woman who had dozens of animals in filthy conditions.
Deborah Dahl, 70, of Pone Hill Road, was originally charged with 94 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals and one charge of practicing medicine without a license. Most of those charges have been dismissed, and Dahl now faces the 21 new charges, including the two felo0nies.
Investigators went to her home in May after Dahl videoed herself performing a procedure on a dog, then posted the video online. Animal Protective Services, the sheriff’s office and state veterinarian’s office staff later went back, arresting Dahl and seizing around 100 animals. She later faced additional charges after a donkey and several Highland cattle were found in poor condition on the property.
The animals included Cane Corso and pit bull dogs, multiple smaller breeds including French and English bulldogs, mixed breed dogs and rabbits. Some of the dogs could not turn around in their cages, while other cages were stacked on top of kennels. At least one dead dog was collected for evidence
The animals were taken to shelters outside the state by the ASPCA.
Dahl remains under a $7,500 secured bond.
