Dr. John David “JD” McAllister Jr. died on Tuesday, August 27, 2025 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Whiteville.
JD was born on March 14, 1949 to the late John David McAllister Sr. and Juanita Freeman McAllister. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent McAllister and Orlando McAllister.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Raeford with Rev. Vance McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the McAllister Family Cemetery, 1554 Chisholm Road, Raeford.
A time of visitation will be prior to the service in the church from 2:00-2:45 p.m.
JD graduated from Hoke County High School. He continued his education at Appalachian State University as an undergraduate, UNC-Greensboro as a graduate student, UNC-Chapel Hill for medical school, and Yale University for his medical residency. A lifelong Christian, he was a faithful member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Raeford. Gifted in music, he was a talented pianist and also played alto saxophone in his college band. He went on to serve as an Internal Medicine physician for more than 35 years, dedicating his career to primary and urgent care medicine.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Williamson McAllister of the home; children, Tatia M. Long, Jason McAllister, Jonathan Kyle McNeill, and Andrew McNeill; grandchildren, Tya O. McAllister, Liam A. McAllister, Keanu A. McAllister, Ezekiel J. Long, and Jalen McNeill; sister, Marverra Savage-McAllister.
