Mrs. Betty Prince Tyler, 88 of Lake Waccamaw, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. She was born to the late Irby Ervin Prince and the late Florence Benton Prince on August 17,1937.
Mrs. Tyler was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Lake Waccamaw, where she faithfully attended her Sunday School class for many years. She cherished time spent outdoors, whether it was riding her bicycle along the lakefront or lovingly tending to her vibrant red roses. One of her greatest joys was spending time outdoors camping and traveling with her husband and family. She cherished every moment with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, filling their lives with love, laughter and lasting memories- especially through her treasured tradition of cooking Sunday dinners. In her quieter moments, she cherished rocking on her front porch, sharing laughter and conversation with family and friends.
Mrs. Betty also served as an assistant school teacher at Hallsboro Elementary School for 42 years, where she touched the lives of countless students with patience and care. In addition, she enjoyed her time as an Avon representative, through which she not only shared her love for the products but also formed many cherished, lifelong friendships.
She is survived by her son Russell Tyler and wife Janet of Lake Waccamaw; daughters Kathy Jackson and husband Jimmy of Lake Waccamaw, Melody McLamb and husband Nicky of Lake Waccamaw; grandchildren, Jana Gibson and husband Bailey, Hyland Tyler and wife Miranda, Cortney Malpass and husband Quinten, Nicholas McLamb, Kaitlin Nobles and husband Derrick; great grandchildren, Avery Malpass, Amelia Malpass, Barrett Nobles; Special Niece, Monica Currie.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clarence “Tommy” Tyler; three brothers, Ernest Prince, Claude Edward Prince Sr., Jack Prince Sr.; five sisters, Marie Powers, Juanita Floyd, Florene Stevens, Martha Hardee and Nell Lupo.
Her funeral service will be on Friday, September 5, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Lake Waccamaw. Interment will follow in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Betty’s caregivers- Devoria, Karen, Kathy, Danielle, Emma and Von for their kindness, dedication and compassion they showed throughout her final journey. Their unwavering care allowed Mrs. Betty to remain in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
