Hit and Run Charged to Repeat DWI Suspect

Wesley Simpkins (Detention Center)

Whiteville Police charged a man with driving while impaired and leaving the scene of a collision after an incident Saturday night.

Wesley Simkins, 63, was initially held under no bond since he refused a breathalyzer, according to court documents. In district court Monday, bond was denied. His address was listed as 721 Davis Ave., Whiteville on court documents. He was also charged with hit and run, resulting in property damage.

The incident was reported just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. Simpkins allegedly struck a Kia Sorento operated by Tyshawn Dewayne Gore, 26, causing around $3,000 in damage. Simpkins proceeded to his home on Davis Avenue, where he was located by Whiteville Police.

Simkins has a pending DWI from July, when he was arrested by the N.C. Highway Patrol. He blew .10 on a blood alcohol test in that case. He was also charged with driving while license revoked.

Simkins is program director for WTXY 103.9 radio in Whiteville.
