A large crowd is expected Tuesday at the Whiteville City Council monthly meeting, as multiple business owners and residents affected by flooding are expected to attend. Elizabeth Kasititi, The Donut Shop owner on S. Madison Street has been one of the harshest critic of the city flooding — yet again — from last week’s storm. Mayoral candidate Mike Shachnuk has been especially vocal about drainage problems, using a photograph of a flooded section of S. Madison Street in his campaign materials. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in city hall and can be viewed online or attended in person.

County Commissioners set a public hearing for November 3 on a new county cell tower ordinance. Commissioners discussed the lack of coverage in some communities, and expressed concern over property values being negatively affected by placement of towers too near homes. Currently there are no height requirements, setbacks or density limits on cell towers here.
