LAKE WACCAMAW — Lakewood rushed for four touchdowns Friday night in a 36-0 rout of East Columbus.
The Leopards led the Gators 16-0 at the end of the first quarter. Lakewood added a touchdown pass and another rushing in the second to put Lakewood up 30-0 at the half. Lakewood added another rushing touchdown in the third quarter to make the Leopards lead 36-0. The clock ran continuously the rest of the game with the sportsmanship rule in effect.
Lakewood received the no. 9 seed in the 2A playoffs announced Sunday. They finished 4-2 in the Carolina Conference and 6-4 overall for the regular season. They received a first round bye for the playoffs and will travel to conference rival no. 8 seed Hobbton (6-4) on Nov. 14.
Hobbton also received a first round bye. Hobbton defeated the Leopards at Lakewood 20-7 October 24. The Gators finished 1-5 in the conference and 2-8 in the regular season. East Columbus received the no. 5 seed and a first round bye in the 1A playoffs. They will travel to no. 4 seed North Stokes (4-6) on Nov. 14.
