Volunteers, Guests Needed for Thanksgiving Dinners

A number of area organizations are offering opportunities to help provide Thanksgiving meals for the needy this week.

  • Capture Community Center in Loris, SC will have their annual community Thanksgiving dinner giveaway on Nov. 25 beginning at 12 p.m.

The feast will feature turkey and dressing, ham, rice and gravy, mac and cheese, green beans, and a roll. Dine in or take out. The meal is for everyone, and deliveries will be available for city employees and the Loris hospital upon request.   • Coastal Family Urgent Care is asking for donations to provide meals for the elderly on Thanksgiving. The team is expecting to feed around 150 seniors. Supplies can be brought to office located at 310 Liberty Street in Whiteville, or you can send a monetary donation via Venmo to @coastalfamilycharities.

Items needed include: ten frozen turkeys, eight hams, 10 large cans of beans, Hawaiian rolls, peanut oil, cakes and pies. They also need ten tables, 100 chairs and a tent.

Volunteers will also be needed for the event. Centerpieces will be made by students at the local primary schools, plates, napkins, and utensils will be provided by A New Beginning Home Care, and donuts will be donated by The Donut Shop. Call Brittany at 910.317.5550.

  • The Sheep Dog Foundation and McMullen House of Heroes will be hosting the  Heroes Feast on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, from 12-2 p.m.

This meal is for on duty law enforcement, firefighters, correctional officers, dispatchers, emergency services personnel, and support personnel working during the holiday.

The meal will be at the new Sheepdog headquarters, 426 South Lee Street in Whiteville. Donations and volunteers are needed. Email info@sheepdogfdn.com for more.
