Here’s Today’s Bottom Line!

Today… tonight… and Saturday will have three things in common. First, it will be dry. Second, the sky will be essentially clear. And third, it’s gonna be COLD.

Unseasonably cold air is locked in place thanks to strong high pressure of Canadian origin. Today’s highs will struggle mightily to reach the upper 40s, and honestly Saturday isn’t looking much better in that regard.

The big story is the deep, hard freeze for tonight. Remember… people, pets, plants, and pipes…

Expect low temperatures early Saturday morning to range from as low as 20°F in some of the typically coldest spots, to around 25°F or so for other locations.  Brrr!

The high pressure pushes away for Sunday allowing a rather remarkable warm-up to take place, but that’ll be short-lived. A coastal front will come together Sunday evening and combine with a couple areas of low pressure on the southern jet stream. The coastal front will help keep warmer air in place… without it the ensuing storm system would be a lot more interesting.

Low pressure(s) converge over the southeast for Monday night and Tuesday. This means a our area will get the first decent rain chances in quite a long time. Some of the guidance has suggested that the two areas of low pressure kind of diverge with one lifting north and west of us and the other pushing offshore. Even though the models are really playing into that scenario, the blends are showing upwards of an inch of rain here locally. I’m going to stick with consistency and go with “periods of rain” in my forecast for Monday night and Tuesday. Regardless of what happens, I don’t expect this to be a flooding concern.

It’s all a memory by Wednesday with sunshine returning to the area and temps slightly below seasonal norms for early December.
