Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Welcome to the Winter Solstice, the shortest day (by daylight) of the year!

It’s certainly not going to feel like the first day of winter as a southerly flow pushes our highs well into the 60s. This is ahead of a cold front which will sweep across the area this afternoon… the only noticeable change is a shift to northwest winds.

Cold air pushes in for tonight and our Monday morning lows will be in the lower 30s.

Monday will feature lots of sunshine, but chilly temps thanks to Canadian high pressure essentially moving overhead. Highs on Monday will be in the lower 50s and lows Monday night will drop to around 30.

A large, sprawling ridge of high pressure over the south-central United States will build eastward for the rest of the week. Weather systems will rotate off to the north, and unseasonably warm temps become locked in place.

There will be no snow or cold for Christmas as our temps will be around 70 with bright sunny skies.

The warmth continues into Friday and Saturday. Longer-range modeling wants to break down the ridge and introduce a cold front as we go into next weekend, but it’s too early to make any judgement call on that one.
