The driver who rearended a vehicle on U.S. 74 Jan. 25 has been charged with felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.
Jordan Alexander Kelly, 21, of 201 Broadway Rd., Chadbourn, was held under no bond pending a first appearance. Warrants show he is charged with felony death by vehicle, reckless driving, driving while impaired, speeding, failure to reduce speed and a seatbelt violation.
Kelly was driving in excess of 70 miles per hour in the westbound lane near Union Valley when he allegedly crashed into a Ford driven by Zachary Snowten, 19, of Evergreen around 1:30 a.m., according to the Highway Patrol. Both vehicles were demolished. Snowten was pronounced dead on the scene.
Warrants show Kelly was initially charged Jan. 27 with misdemeanor death by vehicle, and the charge was upgraded Feb. 11.
