Elwell Ferry across the Cape Fear River is closed until Wednesday.
The Department of Transportation said the ferry is expected to reopen Wednesday at 8 a.m. It crosses the river between Carvers Creek and Kelly, seven days a week from sunrise until sunset. Elwell is the last cable ferry left on the river, and is free to ride.
