Area Baseball Roundup for March 25: Pack, Stallions, Gators Win; Vikings Lose

WHITEVILLE 12, WEST BLADEN 2

WHITEVILLE—Nate Merritt pitched a complete game as the Wolfpack defeated West Bladen 12-2 in baseball on Tuesday night. Merritt gave up three hits and four strikeouts in the effort. Jake Oldham had two RBIs on a hit and teammate Jayden Todd hade a hit and two RBIs. Whiteville moves to 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 6-3 on the season. JT Hepler had a triple and two RBIs in the loss for the Knights. The Knights (0-1, 7-4) will host Whiteville in Dublin on Thursday in a rematch.

SOUTH COLUMBUS 14, FAIRMONT 2

FAIRMONT—South Columbus pounded out 14 runs on nine hits and some costly errors as the Stallions defeated Fairmont 14-2 in baseball. It was the conference opener for both teams. The Stallions are now 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 5-4 on the season. Landon Sampson went one four three with a RBI in the loss for Fairmont (0-1, 3-7). Fairmont and South Columbus will do a rematch Friday in Tabor City.

EAST COLUMBUS 16, LAKEWOOD 6

LAKE WACCAMAW-East Columbus gave up one hit on Tuesday night in beating Lakewood in baseball at The Swamp. Lakewood scored six runs despite only having one hit by the Leopards’ Samuel Johnson, who drove in two runs with the base knock. East Columbus moves to 3-1 in the Carolina Conference and 6-3 on the year. They will host Hobbton (3-0, 5-2) on Thursday. The Leopards (1-3, 3-7) will travel to East Bladen (3-0, 5-4).

EAST BLADEN 23, UNION 0

UNION—East Bladen crushed Union 23-0 in a short game due to sportsmanship on Tuesday. The Eagles scored 17 runs in the second inning to cause the Spartans to say “no mas”. Jaxon Hair and Isaiah Lee combined for a no-hitter for the Eagles. Lee went for three hits and four runs batted in while Colton Daly had a pair of hits and three RBI’s in the win for East Bladen. Union falls to 0-3 in the Carolina Conference and 0-12 on the year. They will face Pender (0-9) in Burgaw on today (March 25). East Bladen (3-0, 5-4) will go to Lakewood (1-3, 3-7) on Thursday.

HOBBTON 3, WEST COLUMBUS 1

NEWTON GROVE—Ayden Lawson had two hits and one RBI as Hobbton defeated West Columbus 3-1 in baseball on Tuesday night. Hobbton goes to 3-0 with the win in the Carolina Conference and 5-2 on the season while West Columbus falls to 3-2 in the conference and 5-4 on the year. The Vikings will host North Duplin (2-4) on Thursday. Hobbton will travel to The Swamp to face East Columbus (3-1, 6-3) on Thursday.

EAST BLADEN 10, WEST BLADEN 9 (Monday)

ELIZABETHTOWN—East Bladen scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past county rival West Bladen 10-9 on Monday night. Isaiah Lee hit a double to give the Eagles the game-winning run. The Eagles move to 4-4 on the year with the win. West Bladen was led by Chase Bryan, who had three triples and the RBI’s in the loss. West Bladen falls to 7-3 on the season.
