March 26 Softball Roundup: Gators Rout; Pack, Stallions Fall

Coyle Pitches Perfect Game

LAKE WACCAMAW—Grayce Coyle threw pitched a perfect game Tuesday night as the Gators crushed Lakewood 19-0.

Coyle struck out all nine batters she faced in the contest. The game was called in the third inning for sportsmanship purposes. Coyle also showed up at the plate also, driving in three runs on a base hit. Mackenzi Clemmons led East Columbus with two hits, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a homerun. The Gators moved to 5-0 in the Carolina Conference and are 8-3 on the year. The Gators lost to Topsail on Wednesday 12-1. East Columbus will go to Pender (9-0) on Monday in a non-conference match up. Lakewood falls to 1-2 in the conference and 3-7 overall. The Leopards will host East Bladen (2-1, 4-5) on Monday.

WEST BLADEN 14, WHITEVILLE 1

WHITEVILLE—Allison Hickman struck out 13 batters and gave up two hits in a complete game effort as West Bladen defeated Whiteville 14-1 in softball.

Natalee Sykes’ first inning grand slam home run opened a 6-0 lead early for the Knights. Addison Wilcox had two doubles and scored three runs in the victory. The Knights also defeated the Pack 13-3 in a rematch Wednesday in Dublin.

The Knights are 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 5-7 on the season. Whiteville falls to 0-2 in the conference and 0-7 for the year. West Bladen will host Fairmont (1-0, 4-5) on Monday while the Wolfpack will travel to the beach and face South Brunswick (1-0, 8-4) on March 30.

EAST BLADEN 16, UNION 1

ELIZABETHTOWN—East Bladen gave up one hit on a team pitching effort to defeat Union 16-1 in softball Tuesday night.

Tatum Allen showed up strong at the bat for the Eagles with a homerun, a double, and three RBIs while teammate Grayce Edwards contributed a double and a homerun with two runs batted in. East Bladen will travel to Lakewood (1-2, 3-7) on Monday. Union falls to 0-5 in the Carolina Conference and 4-7 on the year. The Spartans will host West Columbus (2-2, 2-6) on Monday.

FAIRMONT 14, SOUTH COLUMBUS 4

FAIRMONT—Fairmont (1-0, 4-5) defeated South Columbus (0-1, 2-6) 14-4 in softball on Tuesday night. The two teams will do a rematch in Tabor City on Friday.
