When Central Columbus Angels brought home the 2025 World Series in X-Play Softball last year, they must have brought home a softball virus.
Two teams from Columbus County are going to softball World Series this year. The county will have two representatives from two different divisions: the South Columbus Belles and the Central Columbus Ponytails. The South Columbus Belles are traveling to Odessa, Fla. for their first game against Marianna, Florida at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Belles enter the World Series as the North Carolina Runners-Up in the 13–15-year-old division. They fell to Pembroke 7-4 in the State Championship game.
The Central Columbus Ponytails are headed a little closer to home, as they will travel to Leland. That might not matter to this undefeated squad, as most of this team is no stranger to a World Series. The majority of this team were members of the Central Columbus Angels 2025 X-Play World Series Championship. Most members of this team moved up to the 11-12 years old age bracket to form the 2026 Central Columbus Ponytails.
The Ponytails defeated rival South Columbus in Kinston to claim the North Carolina State Ponytail Championship. They received a first round bye and will face the winner of Charlotte County, Va. and South Brunswick from North Carolina on July 28. Game times will be announced.
