Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Greetings for the third day of Sweat-ember. Unseasonable heat will continue into Saturday… and a heat advisory is in place for today from 11 AM to 8 PM.

Strong high pressure both high in the atmosphere and at the surface will keep the area in this unseasonably hot and rain-free regime in place. We hit the 100-degree-mark yesterday at my station in Whiteville.

Heat advisories will likely be in place Friday and Saturday as well.

A cold front approaches on Saturday. It’s still going to be hot and humid but there will be an increasing threat for thunderstorms later in the day and Saturday night. There’s an increasing threat for severe thunderstorms later Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. The Storm Prediction Center has much of the area under a 15% to 29% chance for severe weather. The biggest threat will likely be damaging winds.

Shower and storm chances continue on Sunday. The front is offshore and gone by Labor Day and we’ll enjoy refreshingly less humid air over the region with highs in the mid 80s. Temps will start to increase again by the middle of next week.

TROPICS: No threats.
