Chatham Central Blanks Gators

LAKE WACCAMAW—Brooks Albright threw two touchdown passes to lead the Chatham Central Bears to a 14-0 shutout of East Columbus on Friday night in football.

In the first quarter, Albright found Gavin Williams from 23 yards out for his first TD pass of the game with 3:24 in the first quarter to give the Bears an early 6-0 lead. It was a defensive battle throughout the game as both teams struggled to move the ball.

In the fourth quarter, Albright passed for his second touchdown of the game as he found Williams again in the endzone the seven-yard line to push the Bears’ advantage to 14-0 with 9:34 remaining in the game. Brooks Albright finished the contest with two touchdown passes and 101 yard passing. Albright added 68 yards rushing on the ground for the Bears.

Williams was on the receiving end of two touchdowns and teammate Tyler Congrove ran for 92 yards on the ground for the Bears.

Chatham Central moves to 3-0 on the season. They will face North Moore (0-3) on Friday.

Despite the loss, the Gators (2-1) are playing staunch defense. After three games, East Columbus has only relinquished 9.3 points a game. They will travel to Legion Stadium in Whiteville to face the Wolfpack (3-0) on Sept. 11.
