Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Abundant moisture will stream northeastward across the eastern Carolinas today through Sunday. Surface-based instability, very little shear, and no dry air in the atmosphere indicates that the showers and thunderstorms will be “single cell” in nature. The storms are likely to be slow-movers with intense rainfall. There may be some organization of storms along the seabreeze and any outflow boundaries that develop… but severe warnings should be few-and-far-between. Some of these storms may produce significant local rainfall with the potential for some flooding.
Sunday’s storm mode should be more multicellular as shear begins to increase. Multi-cells bring a better potential for gusty winds, but the SPC does not have any of the area outlined for severe risk.
Then the precipitation chance shuts completely off for the rest of the week.
Temperatures today and tomorrow are going to be pretty hot with highs around 90… but with the humidity we’re going to have heat index values over 100 degrees.
By Tuesday, though, models are showing that a rather significant Canadian high pressure ridge pushing a cold front across the area late Monday night. The Canadian air mass then pushes across the area for the rest of the week. Morning low temperatures in the lower 60s will be common for the second half of the week, and it wouldn’t surprise me if some spots dip into the upper 50s … for the first time since May. Nice!!
TROPICS: Nothing of interest at this time. We’re now in record territory, with no Atlantic hurricanes yet this season.
