DELWAY–Union ground out 316 yards against the West Bladen Knights for a 42-13 victory Friday night.
Tobias Cromartie led the way with 180 yards on 19 carries and four touchdowns and Marquavaion Melvin rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
The Spartans struck first with a one-yard touchdown run by Cromartie to put Union ahead 6-0 with 5:33 in the first quarter. On their next possession, Melvin ran the ball 81 yards to the house to make the score 14-0 Spartans. Melvin added another seven-yard touchdown in the second quarter to push the lead to 22-0.
West Bladen then got on the scoreboard with a nine-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 22-6. The Spartans answered with a 20-yard touchdown run from Cromartie to push the score to 28-6 at the half.
Union’s Cromartie added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, one for 22 yards and the other from 54 yards away, to put the game out of reach at 42-6.
In the fourth quarter, Alvin Lacewell scored for West Bladen on a six-yard rush to make the score 42-13. Cedrick McKiver added the extra point for the Knights.
Union moves to 3-1 on the season and will host East Columbus (2-3) on Friday. West Bladen (0-5) will host unbeaten Whiteville (5-0) on Oct. 2.
