Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Very quiet weather will continue through Friday. Heights at the 500-millibar level of our atmosphere (around 18,000 feet) start to rise, indicating ridging high pressure aloft and at the surface. This high pressure results in sinking (compressing) air, leaving us with bright blue nearly cloudless sky.
Temperatures are going to increase. We’ll be in the mid to upper 80s today, upper 80s for Wednesday, around 90 on Thursday, and poking into the lower 90s on Friday.
Along with increased temperatures will come increased humidity on Thursday and Friday. Heat index values on Friday (October 2nd, by the way), will be in the mid to upper 90s, possibly flirting with the 100-degree mark. Did I mention that Friday is October 2nd?
The late-season heat ridge pushes offshore by the weekend, allowing a series of frontal boundaries to approach the area. These fronts will be associated with a deeper trough that will impact the southeast. Spotty shower chances on Saturday become more realistic for Sunday and Monday. No severe weather or anything along those lines. Temps return back to more seasonable levels by Sunday into early next week.
TROPICS: Tropical depression Fay continues to defy all global modeling. She remains a tightly packed, small system, but with a closed circulation center and winds in the depression level.
Tropical storm Hanna is in the central Atlantic and while this system should remain in good shape for a day or two, shear and dry air will become crippling factors.
We will likely turn the calendar to October without an Atlantic hurricane. Each passing day sets a new record.
