Due to hazardous road conditions, Whiteville City Schools, Columbus County Schools, and Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville, including Carolina Adventist Academy are operating on remote for this Friday. Southeastern Community College will continue remote instruction Friday, January 24. Four people were shot, one critically, separate shooting incidents in Columbus County over the weekend. All of the incidents are under investigation. Two people were arrested on drug charges after an early morning traffic stop turned up methamphetamines Jan. 17. Jerry Delane McBride, 51, of 1417 Bill Hooks Rd., was held without bond. He was charged with two counts of trafficking in meth; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver Suboxone strips, and drug paraphernalia.
