Carey Benton, age 81 of Lake Waccamaw, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, N.C..

Carey was born on September 14, 1939 in Columbus County, to the late Clarence Poe Benton and Madge Lenora Grissom Benton; He was the widow of Patricia “Pat” Arp Benton.

An informal drop-in Memorial/Remembrance Service, with the family, will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Carey’s Home, located at 1623 Waccamaw Shores Road, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450. 

Survivors include a son, Joseph Carey Benton (Amanda) of Ivanhoe; daughter, Sharon Janet Benton Lyne (Jeff) of Mooresville; siblings, Martin Benton and Bertie B. Lanehart, both of Whiteville; 7 grandchildren, Kinsey Lyne, Natalie Lyne, Olivia Lyne, Adam Lyne, Emily Benton, Elizabeth Benton, and Sarah Benton.
