More than $6,000 in equipment stolen from city

The sidewalk project currently underway in Whiteville is federally funded and being managed by the NCDOT.

Someone broke into the Whiteville City Garage and stole more than $6,000 worth of equipment over the weekend.

City workers discovered the thefts Monday morning, according to Whiteville Police. Two chainsaws, a pole saw, a blower,  and multiple string trimmers were among the items taken.

Entry to the garage was gained by someone cutting a hole in a fence at the Main Street property, then battering or cutting locks from trailers and buildings inside.

The incident is under investigation.
