Hospital restricts some visitors due to COVID

Columbus Regional Health Care

The recent rapid increase in local COVID-19 cases has led to a step backward in visitation at Columbus Regional.
Effective Tuesday (today), only one visitor per patient will be permitted from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.  The Main Entrance at Physical Therapy and the Donayre Cancer Care Center will be limited to patients for those two areas.  All visitors need to use the entrance at the Yellow Canopy.

“This is in an effort to protect patients, their families, and healthcare workers from the continued spread of COVID-19,” said hospital spokeswoman Stephanie Miller.

State officials said last week that Columbus has one of the highest rates of community spread, while maintaining one of the lowest rates of vaccination in the state.

“We know these changes may be difficult or inconvenient for patient and their loved ones, and do not take them lightly,” Miller said. “However, these changes are to ensure we are doing everything we can as a system to keep our patients, their families, our teammates, and our community safe and to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.”

Noting that staying connected with family is vital to the healing process, Miller said that patients and families are strongly encouraged to utilize other forms of support for their loved ones, such as phone calls and video chat. CRHS has iPads which can be used to communicate with patients and family.

“This is a rapidly evolving situation and Columbus Regional Healthcare System continues to monitor and respond to COVID-19,” Miller said. “The safety of our patients, teammates, and our community is the top priority.”
