Whiteville Police have arrested a Florida man for the robbery of Fowler’s Jewelry last week.
Jesmain Burnette was arrested by Whiteville detectives and the Clearwater, Fla., police. He is being held under no bond pending extradition.
Lt. Andre Jackson of the Whiteville Police said in a press release that Police were called to the store on Powell Boulevard Oct. 4. Burnette allegedly entered the store and held a handgun to a worker’s head, then left with approximately $15,000 in jewelry.
Witnesses said Burnette damaged his car as he fled the scene. Set. M. Strickland found Burnette’s black BMW SUV several miles from the store.
A search of the car identified Burnette, who was also wanted in Miami on unrelated charges.
The holdup occurred while officers were involved with a double fatality wreck a few blocks from the store.
