December 19, 1959 ~ December 24, 2021 (age 62)
Janet Duncan Smith of Whiteville was fully restored on December 24, 2021 while holding the hand of the love of her life, Shaune Smith. She was the 62 year old daughter of the late Cecil Duncan and Margrett Garrell Duncan.
Janet’s time with us was cut short by a dementia diagnosis at the age of 56, but her spirit proved strong to the very end and she continued to persevere in spite of the cruel disease she faced.
Janet was incredibly intelligent, demonstrated in everything she touched. She loved sewing, reading, crafting, and learning in general as she prepared for countless Sunday school lessons and Bible Studies. But above all else, she loved her people. Her husband of 31 years was her best friend and her rock in the darkest of days. Her children brought her untold joy. She reminded them often that she loved them dearly and wherever she was always felt like home. Her friends and church family moved her to countless acts of service and she counted every one of them a privilege.
Janet is survived by her husband, Shaune Smith of Whiteville, her three children, Leanne Sellers of Whiteville, Christopher Sellers of Winnabow, and Alexander Smith of Burnsville, her sister, Kathy Etheridge of Mollie, her Uncle and Aunt, George and Olene Garrell of Beaverdam, 2 granddaughters, Madison and Emma, and numerous cousins and friends.
There will be a celebration of Janet’s life on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm held at Trinity Baptist Church in Whiteville at 201 S. Thompson St. Reverend Stephen Baley and Reverend Eddy Bunton will be officiating.
Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service.
