One suspect was arrested after he ran into a metal pole while fleeing deputies last week.
Henry Charles Brandt and Joe Allen Formyduval pulled into the Holiday Motel parking lot Dec. 8 when they were spotted by patrolling deputies, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said. The vehicle was registered to Brandt, who had an outstanding warrant from the recent drug roundup called Operation Giving Thanks.
Brandt allegedly bailed from the vehicle and tried to escape on foot, the CCSO said, but ran into a metal pole. He was not seriously injured. Both men were taken into custody.
K-9 Officer Gunny was deployed on the vehicle, and indicated the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search turned up two pipes, heroin, a syringe, Suboxone tablets, Adderall tablets, crystal methamphetamine, packaging materials, cut straws, and a digital scale.
Brandt, 32, of Lake Waccamaw, was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver opiates, possession of opiates, misdemeanor possession of narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and resist, obstruct and delay. He was also charged with sale and delivery of opiates from the previous warrant. Bond was set at $23,000.
Formyduval, 30, listed a Hallsboro address on arrest records. He was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver opiates, misdemeanor possession of narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. He was held under $6,500 secured bond.
