1/9/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

NBA: The Hornets faced the NBA’s defending champions Milwaukee Bucks last night and won 114-106. It was not the lack of players; it was a 12-point second quarter that did the Bucks in. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a double-double and led all scorers with 43 points, he added 12 rebounds and 3 assists. Bobby Portis had a double-double with 19 points and13 rebounds. Kris Middleton almost has a triple-double for Milwaukee adding in 27 points, 10 rebounds and9 assists. All that was not enough, as Terry Rozier scored 28 points, Miles Bridges added 21 points and 8 rebounds, LaMelo Ball was close to a triple-double with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists, and Kelly Oubre Jr. Picked up 18 points. The Hornets are back at it tomorrow as they have the second of a back-to-back with the Bucks in the Spectrum center at 7pm. The game will be on NBA TV. 

Grizzlies 123-108 over the Clippers, Ja Morant did not play. 

Pacers beat the Jazz 125-113 

Magic lost to the Pistons 97-92 

The Celtics beat the Knicks 99-75 

Suns cannot handle the Heat, Miami wins 123-100

NHL: Last Night’s Scores

Four of the fifteen games scheduled from last night were postponed due to Covid-19 protocols.  

The Hurricanes lost to the Panthers 4-3 in overtime. Carolina only took 27 shots on net and had only 5 takeaways, compared to their 14 giveaways, which led to the loss. Hurricanes had goals from Seth Jarvis, Teuvo Teravainin and Brady Skjei. Carolina is back on the ice Tuesday in Philadelphia at 7pm. 

Penguins lost to the Stars 3-2 

Maple Leafs take the loss 5-4 to the Avalanche 

Blue Jackets beat the Devils 4-3 

Bruins win 5-2 over the Lightning 

3-2 Flyers lost to the Sharks 

The Wild gets the win 3-2 over the Capitals 

Predators beat the Coyotes 4-2 

Golden Knights lost the Blackhawks 2-1 

Rangers 4-1 over the Ducks 

Kings shut out the Red Wings 4-0

NCAA Men’s Basketball: Yesterday’s scores

Miami goes to Cameron Indoor Stadium and gets the big win over Duke 76-74. Miami is 5-0 in ACC play and the win last night was the first time since 2006 that the Hurricanes beat a team ranked in the top five. Freshman Paolo Banchero led the Blue Devils with 20 points, he also had 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Wendel Moore Jr. had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, he also led the team in assist with 7. Wake Forest will host Duke on Wednesday night at 7pm on the ACC Network 

Clemson beats North Carolina State 70-65 

Virginia lost to the Tar Heels 74-58. North Carolina’s Armando Backot dominated the game with 29 points and 21 rebounds. The Tar Heels face the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech on Jan 15 at 8pm on the ACC Network. 

UNC Greensboro wins 72-56 over the Virginia Military Keydets. 

Syracuse travels to Wake Forest and loses in overtime 77-74. The Demon Deacons were led by Alondes Williams double-double, he had 25 points and 12 rebounds. 

East Carolina lost a close one at Temple 78-75. Alanzo Frink had 15 points to lead the Pirates. Tristen Newton was close to a triple-double with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. 

North Carolina A & T Aggies 73-72 over Radford. Marcus Watson led the A & T Aggies with 18 points and 9 rebounds. 

North Carolina Central versus Morgan State was postponed, and South Alabama versus Coastal Carolina was canceled. 

NCAA Men’s Football 

The National Championship Game will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Jan 10 on ESPN. #1 Alabama Crimson Tide will face #3 Georgia Bulldogs.
