February 21, 1946 ~ January 17, 2022 (age 75)
George Edward (Buddy) Smith, 75, of Bolton entered the Golden Gates of Heaven on Monday, January 17, 2022. He was born February 21, 1946 in Columbus County, the son of the late Albert Jay Smith and Julia Holt Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel S. Byrd, Margaret S. Davis and Sadie S. Rouse and his former spouse and dear friend, Gurtha Squires Smith.
Buddy was a loving daddy, granddaddy and great-granddaddy. He loved his family dearly, he would help anyone no matter who you are. He also loved fishing and deer hunting, he was a member of John’s Island Hunting Club for many years. He retired from Federal Paper Woodland Division after many years of service, there he picked up the nick name “The Dragline Man” after that he worked for Malpass Construction Company for many years. He was member of Union Grove PFB Church.
He is survived by his children, Julie S. Patrick and her husband Barry of Bolton, Tony Edward Smith and his wife Joan of Riegelwood and Karen S. Pipkin of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Magen, Jesse and Morgan; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Joshua and Jae; brother-in-law, T.G (Red) Davis of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
His graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Union Grove Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Blackwell officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Julie Patrick, 263 Renegade Rd. Bolton, NC 28423.
