Local Volleyball Roundup: Eagles Blank Union; Stallions Fall in Key Match

In Elizabethtown, East Bladen inched closer to the Carolina Conference Volleyball title with a 3-0 defeat of Union this week. The Eagles need one more conference victory to clinch at least a tie for the crown.

East Bladen (9-1, 14-5) were led by Tensley Dowless with 12 kills and 12 points followed by Harlee Shaw with 10 points.

The Eagles travel out of conference on Monday to face perennial powerhouse Clinton (15-2). Union (1-10, 2-16) will go to Hobbton (2-7, 6-9) on Thursday.

In Tabor City, the Stallions fell to South Brunswick 3-0. The Cougars won by scores of 25-20, 25,21, and 25-19. South Brunswick is now 8-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 14-6 on the season.

The Cougars host North Brunswick (7-8) on Monday while South Columbus (6—2, 15-3) will travel to Fairmont (3-4, 7-9).

West Bladen won a pair of matches this week. On Tuesday, West Bladen beat Fairmont 3-0. The Knights took the victory by scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-13. Kimayah Smith posted eight kills and seven points in the loss for the Golden Tornadoes.

West Bladen swept Red Springs 3-0 on Wednesday. The set scores were 25-13, 25-15, and 25-7. Greer Pope posted 19 assists and Kimberly Dowless pounded eight kills in the victory.

West Bladen is currently 6-2 in the Southeastern Conference and 10-6 on the year. The Knights are tied with South Columbus for second in the conference.

On Thursday, Fairmont downed Whiteville 3-0. The Tornadoes (3-4, 7-9) will travel to South Columbus (6-2, 15-3) on Monday. The Wolfpack (1-7, 1-16) host Red Springs (0-8, 0-16) Monday.
