A new N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles driver license office will open Monday, Oct. 5, in Tabor City. The office will be located at 119 Lynwood Norris Road, across from the Lake Tabor Boat Ramp, and will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on state holidays.
Funding for the new two‑person office was included in state budget passed by the N.C. General Assembly and signed by Gov. Josh Stein in July.
The office will serve walk‑in customers and those with scheduled appointments and will offer basic road skills testing. Commercial driver license and motorcycle skills testing will not be available at this location.
“This new office is another important step in expanding access to DMV services for communities across our state,” said NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine. “As North Carolina continues to grow, we are committed to meeting people where they are, reducing wait times, and ensuring customers can get the services they need as efficiently as possible.”
This opening is part of a broader statewide expansion of DMV services. In the last year, NCDMV has opened new driver license offices in Garland (Sampson County), Leland (Brunswick County), and on Fort Bragg (Cumberland County), as well as an expanded and relocated East Charlotte office in Mecklenburg County. Additional offices are scheduled to open in 2027 in Fuquay‑Varina and Wake Forest in Wake County, in Concord in Cabarrus County, and at Camp Lejeune in Onslow County.
NCDMV encourages customers to review office locations and hours at NCDMV.gov and to use online services for transactions such as license renewals, duplicates, and address changes to avoid unnecessary in‑person visits. Customers can also check current wait times at VisitDMV.nc.gov before heading to an office.
