1/13/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

MLB: The Players Union and the league plan to meet today.  Opening day for the 2022 season is March 31 and it is the first time since 1968 that all teams will play on opening day. The pitchers and catchers are due in camp on Feb 12-13. The Atlanta Braves camp opens on Feb 15. Both sides hope to have a new collective bargaining agreement in place before then, if so, the season will start on time. 

NBA: Last Night’s Action

The Hornets beat the 76ers in Philadelphia last night 109-98. It is the first time since 2016 that Charlotte has beaten the 76ers. The Hornets were led by Gordon Hayward, who finished with 30 points. LaMelo Ball had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The Hornets are back in action tomorrow as they host the Magic. Tip-off is 7pm at the Spectrum Center. 

Celtics beat the Pacers 199-100 

Wizards beat the Magic 112-106 

Mavericks take a loss from the Knicks 108-85. Luka Doncic had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Knicks, RJ Barrett led all scorers with 32 points. Julius Randle scored a double-double for New York 17 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. 

Heat beat Hawks 115-91 

Rockets over the Spurs 128-124 

Cavaliers lost to the Jazz 111-91 

Kings beat Lakers 125-116 

Bulls lost to the Nets 138-112. Zack LaVine led the Bulls with 22 points. Lonzo Ball finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The Nets were Led by Kevin Durant who was the game’s high scorer with 22 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists. James Harden led the game in rebounds and assists, tallying 25 points, 7 rebounds and 16 assists. Kyrie Irving finished 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

NCAA Men’s Basketball:  Last Night

East Carolina lost 79-71 to Cincinati 

Wake Forest lost to Duke 76-64. Paolo Banchero once again led the Blue Devils in scoring with 24 points. Banchero also added 5 rebounds and an assist. AJ Griffin scored 22 points.  

North Carolina- Wilmington Seahawks over Elon 73-66 

North Carolina State won 79-63 over Louisville  

North Carolina A & T Aggies 67-59 over Hampton 

Tonight:  Coastal Carolina travels to Appalachian State. The game tips off at 6:30pm  

UNC Ashville travels Winthrop at 7pm 

UTEP versus Charlotte 7pm

LOCAL SPORTS: Varsity Boys 

The Whiteville Wolfpack is back in action tomorrow against Pender. The game is scheduled for tomorrow at 7pm. It was rescheduled from the other night. 

West Columbus was also rescheduled to play South Columbus at 4pm tomorrow. 

Girls Varsity Basketball:  Last Night 

The Lady Wolfpack of Whiteville beat Fairmont 43-40. 

Tomorrow:  West Columbus at South Columbus, rescheduled from the other night 4pm. Both teams are winless. 

Whiteville in Pender 6pm. Also rescheduled earlier this week.
