1/27/22  Daily Sports Wrap Up 

NFL: Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers is calling it quits after 18 seasons in the NFL. Roethlisberger announced on social media that “It was time to clean out my locker, hang up the cleats…” Ben was rookie of the year in 2004 and made it to six Pro-Bowls. He even led the NFL in passing yards two times. Roethlisberger finishes his career ranked fifth in passing yards with 64, 088, top ten in passing attempts 8,443 with 5,440 completions. Ben had a total of 418 touchdowns. 

Nathanial Hackett is the new head coach of the Denver Broncos, replacing Vic Fangio who was fired after the end of the regular season. Hackett started his coaching career in college in 2003 and was quickly hired into the NFL in 2006 by the Jaguars as offensive coordinator. He helped lead Jacksonville to the AFC championship game in 2017. In 2019 Hackett was offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers where he helped Aaron Rodgers win the league’s MVP award. This move might open the way for Denver to acquire Rodgers this off season as he enters free agency. 

AFC:  The Bengals now move on to face the Chiefs Sunday at 3pm on CBS.  

NFC:  The 49ers will face the Rams in the NFC Championship game on Sunday at 6:30pm on FOX. 

NBA Last Night’s Games:  The Hornets explode for over 150 points as they beat the Pacers 158-126. Charlotte led only by one point at halftime 71-70, but 87 points in the second half was too much for the Pacers. Kelly Oubre Jr led the way with 39 points (10-15 on 3-point shots). LaMelo tossed in a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. Miles Bridges had 22 points; Terry Rozier had 20 points. Charlotte is back at it tomorrow as they host the Lakers in the Spectrum Center at 7:30pm. 

Bucks lost to the Cavaliers 115-99. That is three wins in a row for Cleveland. 

Magic lost to the Clippers 111-102. 

Knicks fall to the Heat 110-96 

Kings cannot handle the Hawks and lost 121-104. 

Raptors lost at the Bulls 111-105 

Nuggets beat the Nets 124-118. James Harden did not play. Nikola Jokic scored 26 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. 

Spurs lost to the Grizzlies 118-110. Ja Morat had 41 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. 

Suns handle the Jazz 105-97. Utah is 3-7 in the last 10 games. 

Mavericks beat the Trail Blazers 132-112. Triple-double for Luka Doncic with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists. Kristaps Porzingis scored 22 points.

Ducks lost in a shootout to the Maple Leafs 4-3

Bruins lost to the Avalanche 4-3 in overtime.

UNC Greensboro over East Tennessee70-86 

Western Carolina loses a close one 68-66 at the Citadel  

North Carolina beats Boston College 58-47. Caleb Love led the Tar Heels with 16 points. Armando Bacot grabbed 18 boards. RJ Davis scored 13 points and had 7 rebounds. North Carolina hosts North Carolina State on Saturday at 2pm on the ACC Network. 

Old Dominion lost at Charlotte 71-67 

Virginia Common defeats Davidson 70-68 

North Carolina State falls to Notre Dame 73-65
