Claude Elliott Boswell, age 87 of Cerro Gordo, passed away on February 17, 2022, at Shoreland Health and Rehabilitation in Whiteville, NC.
Claude was born on October 13, 1934, in Columbus County, to the late Troy Boswell and Mary Brown Boswell. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Harvey Boswell, Andy Boswell, and Rachel Allen, and his nephews, Billy Allen, Richard Walker, and Richard Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Worthington Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Moore and Rev. Jeremy Hinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Boswell Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-2:45, prior to the service on Sunday.
Everyone knew Claude, or so it seemed; he never met a stranger. He would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere….. by the time it was over, he would have asked several questions in effort to figure out If he knew you or your family, and he would have told you all about his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, of whom he was extremely proud.
If you didn’t meet Claude on one of his many moped adventures riding around Columbus County, or one of the surrounding counties, then maybe you met him at the Columbus County Health Department, where he worked from 1979-1999, he would have talked your ears off there, too.
Claude loved the Lord and enjoyed attending various churches in the Cerro Gordo area. In his younger years, he even sang a little bit in church. Claude loved to chew tobacco and dip snuff, of which he did for 83 years. When he was around 80 years old, a doctor once asked him how long he had been using tobacco products, and he quickly responded, “Since I was 4 years old”.
Claude lived a long, full life and he will be dearly missed.
Claude leaves behind his sister-in-law, Judy Mae Walker Boswell of Cerro Gordo; special nieces & nephews and his caregivers, Sandy Hinson (Bo), Cody Hinson, Adam Hinson, all of Cerro Gordo; Sherry Strickland of Clinton, Pat Hilbourn (Lamar) of Cerro Gordo, Phillip Allen (Genvia) of Longs, SC, Patricia Horne (Billy) of Chadbourn, Charles Boswell (Sherry) of Batesburg, SC, Wanda Lowery (Ronnie) of Whiteville, Ann Batten (Welt) of Chadbourn, and many other great nieces & nephews.
