Jack Moody Yates, Sr., age 89 of Chadbourn, entered into the joys of the Lord on Friday, February 25, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Jack was born on September 14, 1932, in Columbus County, to the late John Raymond Yates and Lillie Mae Hedgepeth Yates. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Raymond W. Yates, Lenton l. Yates, Sr., Hal N. Yates.
Jack was a faithful member of Piney Forest Baptist Church, of which he served in several capacities over the years, including Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a charter member of Chadbourn Lion’s Club, a Train Union Director, President of the Booster Club at West Columbus High School for 12 years and served on the Advisory Board for West Columbus High School for 12 years; Jack also served as President of Woodmen of the World Lodge 130. In his earlier years, Jack played football for Wake Forest University. He was an avid fisherman and had a deep love for God and his family.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Piney Forest Baptist Church, with Pastor Willard McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 12:30-1:45, prior to the service on Monday.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Arlene Rae Smith Yates of the home; son, Jack M. Yates, Jr. and wife, Sue, of Chadbourn; grandchildren, Jack M. Yates, III, Jessica Brooke Gangway, Jenna Rae Yates; great-grandchildren, Lily Madelyn Gangway, Jack M. Yates, IV. Maxton Luke Gangway, and John Sullivan Yates, Deacon James Yates, and Ella Grace Gangway.
